Outside a hardy group of Painted Stone Settlers talked to visitors. Red Orchard Park is the new site of the 2008 Long Run Massacre Re-Enactment hosted by The Painted Stone Settlers. While the Earth Day Celebration was held near the entrance to the new park, the September Re-Enactment will be held in the wooded area near Clear Creek. Several of the members walked down to survey the spot. See photos on the Guest Gallery by Walt Waitkus to see the re-enactment spot and also some excellent photos of the birds brought to the Earth Day Celebration by Raptor Rehabilitation.

Shelbyville Mayor, Tom Hardesty (left) and County Judge Executive Rob Rothenburger (center) also addressed the crowd inside the barn. Then County Judge  Rothenburger signed the Earth Day Proclamation and The Painrted Stone Settlers fired the cannon in salute. There were crafts and games for the children, musical performances,  tree planting and even a visit from Smokey the Bear.Although it was a beautiful sunny day, a brisk wind made the PSS fire a welcome place.

Visitors stopped to ask questions and learn about the 18th century cannon. Re-Enactors each chose different dress styles for the day, to give the public a view of both 18th century military and civilian lifestyles.
